A Little Help For Your Hands
Our hands are always on show. We use them in just about every daily task. It’s surprising then, how many women spend huge amounts of money on caring for their face and hair, yet forget about caring for their hands.
Our hands are one of the first areas on our bodies to show signs of ageing. Because the skin on our hands is much thinner than the skin on our face, it’s even more prone to ageing. There is also very little fat on the back of the hands, so when collagen and elastin fibers begin breaking down, it has a very noticeable effect.
Together with the damaging effects of frequent washing and the constant exposure to the elements, it is easy to understand why they need special care.
With a little effort, you can care for your hands and reverse any damage done.
The skin on your hands is more prone to dryness, so it’s essential to apply a good, thick, moisturizer after every wash. Keep lotion in your bag, beside your bed and in your drawer at work to instantly eliminate dry skin. Vaseline lotions are non-greasy moisturisers that are quickly absorbed. Our lotions nourish hands resulting in softer palms, fingertips and knuckles.
Exfoliate your hands once a week with a scrub. Make your own by mixing brown sugar with some Vaseline petroleum jelly: original BLUESEAL and rub into the hands for two minutes. This will remove any dead skin cells, eliminate dry skin and ensure that the lotion you apply thereafter hydrates more effectively.
To prevent wrinkles and discolouration on the hands, it’s important to protect them with sunscreen. Apply a sunscreen that offers protection of at least SPF 20. The trick is to get into the habit of applying it every time you wash your hands. Invest in a pair of rubber gloves and wear them when cleaning up. Household detergents can be very harsh on the hands, causing them to dehydrate.
Treat your hands to a monthly manicure. Having a professional clean up your cuticles, shape your nails and paint them in a pretty colour will give you more motivation to care for them correctly. Give your hands a weekly intensive treat by coating them in Vaseline petroleum jelly: cocoa butter and putting on a pair of plastic gloves for half an hour. This unique conditioning jelly cares for skin while reducing dryness ensuring hands feel soft and look great.
